Why your Instagram gets likes but no enquiries

Lots of likes, quiet WhatsApp? The six most common reasons, and what to fix first.

Good question!

Short answer: likes measure attention, enquiries measure trust and clarity. Most pages get the first without building the second. The fix is usually not "post more", it's giving each post a job and making the next step obvious.

It's one of the most common things we hear from business owners in Malaysia: "My posts get likes, people even comment, but nobody WhatsApps us." It feels unfair, because the page looks busy. But a busy page and a selling page are two different things.

Here are the six reasons we see most often when we review pages, and what to do about each.

1. Every post is doing the same job

A healthy feed has different kinds of posts: some reach new people, some get saved, some build trust, and a few ask for the enquiry. When every post is a pretty product photo, or every post is a promo, the page gets attention but never builds the reasons to buy.

Fix first: before you post, ask "what is this post's job?" Reach, trust or enquiry. Plan a month so all three jobs are covered.

2. People can't tell what you sell in 3 seconds

New visitors land on your profile from a Reel or an ad. If your bio, highlights and first row of posts don't answer "what is this, who is it for, where are you?", they leave, even if they liked the post.

Fix first: rewrite your bio as one clear line (what you do + for whom + where), and make your first highlights answer the top questions: services, prices or packages, location, reviews.

3. There's no clear next step

Many posts end with nothing. No "WhatsApp us for a quote", no "DM 'BOOK' for available slots". People who are interested still need to be told what to do next, and how easy it is.

Fix first: give enquiry posts one simple call to action, and make sure the WhatsApp link in your bio actually works and opens with a pre-filled message.

4. Promos train people to wait

Promos can bring a spike of sales. But when a page only sells through discounts, customers learn to wait for the next one, and enquiries go quiet in between. Our founder saw this first-hand at a well-known shoe brand: when the promos stopped, the sales stopped.

Fix first: mix in posts that sell the value of the service itself: the process, the result, the people behind it. Then a promo becomes a bonus, not the only reason to buy.

5. Not enough proof

Before someone messages a business they don't know, they look for signs it's safe: real results, real customers, real reviews. Pages that show only polished photos and no proof make people hesitate.

Fix first: add before-and-afters, short customer stories and screenshots of real reviews (with permission), and pin your best proof post.

6. Ads are chasing likes, not messages

If you run ads, check what you asked Meta to find. Engagement ads find people who like and react. Messaging or lead ads find people who start conversations. Same budget, very different results.

Fix first: for enquiries, use a messaging objective (like Click-to-WhatsApp), point it at your clearest offer, and judge it by cost per conversation, not by likes.

A quick self-check

QuestionIf "no"…
Could a stranger tell what you sell from your bio and first 6 posts?Rewrite the bio and pin 3 key posts
Do your last 9 posts include proof (results, reviews)?Add at least 2 proof posts this month
Does every enquiry post end with one clear action?Add a call to action and test your WhatsApp link
Are your ads judged by cost per conversation?Switch the objective to messages or leads

When to get help

If you've fixed the basics and the page still isn't bringing enquiries, the problem is usually in the plan: who you're talking to, what each post is for, and how content and ads work together. That's what we do every day for social media clients in Malaysia, and it's why we plan content and Meta ads as one system.
